Clay bakers are ideal for baking bread. Our terra cotta clay bread bakers are the closest thing to baking your bread in a brick oven which has been prized for the crisp crust and moist it produces. Our bread baker is glazed on the inside in order to prevent the bread from sticking to the baker. At the same time, the unglazed outside will absorb the water when soaked prior to baking in order to add moisture and create a nice crisp crust.

Why does it work so well?:

The unglazed, porous outside of the bakers absorbs water during soaking. As the baker heats in the oven, the water which it has absorbed evaporates to create a moist baking atmosphere. Not only does this prevent the bread from drying out but it also encourages the bread to rise well. The baker also helps to give yeasted bread a good crispy crust.
